This past Saturday was the 26th Hawaii Ironman and it was one of the toughest races in a few years. Norman Stadler from Germany won the men’s race, with an incredible bike ride that pretty much decided the race by the end of the bike. Peter Reid ran 2:46 but was still 10min back in second at the finish. Nina Kraft also put on an incredible display in all three disciplines to take the women’s crown and Lisa Bentley had another strong race in her third Ironman of the year matching her best placing ever in Hawaii with a 5th place. NRG PT athlete Mark Decker was also competing in Hawaii after qualifying in Ironman Wisconsin last year, unfortunately Mark has been battling a neck injury that would stop him from reaching his goals on the day.
The last couple of weeks have seen NRG PT athletes racing around the globe. Neil Riekenbrauck was 8th in his age group in the National Duathlon Championships in Quebec City and Sylvie Dansereau was second overall in a sprint triathlon on Oahu. Teresa Deveaux, after a great race in Lake Placid this summer came back this weekend to run a marathon PB of 3:43 and qualify for Boston next spring in the Bay State Marathon in Boston.
It was also a busy weekend of racing here in Toronto. NRG PT Associate Coach Fiona Whitby ran a 10km PB in the Zoo 10k Run on Saturday running 41:15 on a tough course, placing 1st in her age group and 7th overall. In the Toronto Half Marathon on Sunday there were five NRG PT athletes competing, Jesse Ryan, in his first ever half went 1:38:14 for a great debut. Both Fabio and Camila Costa showed that they are adapting well to the cooler climate of Toronto having moved here from Brazil earlier this year by running strongly in their first half marathon races. Adam Oliveira and Margaret Evans also had great runs, both breaking the 2hour barrier. In the marathon Seanna Robinson showed she has bounced back well from her 10:38 in IMC by finishing 7 overall and running 2:56!
Congratulations to everyone for a great weekend of racing!
