This past weekend was the Peterborough Half Ironman and sprint Triathlon and true to form it was a hot windy day. The Peterborough course is very tough as it has rolling hills for pretty much all of the bike and run. This combined with a solid headwind in the second half of the ride, no shade on the run and temperatures well into the 30C’s, made it a true test for everyone!!
This was a very big weekend for NRG Performance Training athletes with over 25 athletes racing in Peterborough!! There where 2 athletes competing in their very first triathlons and congratulations to Chris Scales and Doug Charlton who both finished a very tough first tri and are on their way to their first Ironman’s in Wisconsin in September. There where also 8 athletes racing their first Half Ironman races, Jesse Ryan, Al Uhrich, Joe Cosentino, Dave Martens, Ken Marks, Joanne Sisco, Tibor Szirmay-Kalos and Lianne Miller and all had a great finishes with Lianne finishing second in her age group! Congratulations as well to our half Ironman veterans, Denny Driscoll, Maurice Harapiak, Sylvie Dansereau, Cam Bush, Derek Joynt, Tim Rowley, Soenke Koerber, Dave Jones, Gilles Simard, Nicole Gilinsky (who got her spot for IMC!!) and Rob Gendron for their races on the weekend. Mike Apted had a great race as well, taking part in the sprint triathlon.
We had 2 age groups winners in the group with Sylvie Dansereau and Cam Bush both winning their respective age groups and both looking very good heading into their first Ironman’s at IMC in 7 weeks! Head coach Nigel also put together a solid day taking the overall win.
It was great to see so many NRG PT racing outfits out on the course and racing well!! There are pictures now posted in the scrapbook section of the website with thanks to Fiona and Chantal for the pictures and the cheering!
