Ironman Hawaii

The Hawaii Ironman took place on Oct 15 with Faris Al-Sultan and Natasha Badman taking home the victories under great conditions. Swim times where a bit slow due a cross swell but the bike ride was one of the best ever in Hawaii, light winds for pretty much the whole ride except for a short section to the turnaround at Hawi meant for fast times on the bike course.

NRG PT was well represented with 6 athletes racing (including head coach Nigel Gray) and associate coach Fiona Whitby on hand taking pictures and lending support. Our Hawaii veteran, Jody Sanderson (a 3 time Hawaii racer) had a solid day going sub 5hours on the bike and finishing in 9:50, Kari Ala-leppilampli was next home in 10:17 also having a good day. Sylvie Dansereau was 4th in her age group in 10:24 and Cam Bush hung tough after bonking half way through the run and doing a little sideways shuffle down the Queen K highway! Tom Beckerman overcame a flat (and subsequent 30min tire change) and some slow (20+min total!) transitions to post a 13:45. Head coach Nigel Gray also had a good day, going 8:56 and finishing in 32nd in the Pro race.

This was the first Hawaii Ironman for Kari, Sylvie, Cam, Tom and Nigel and the second ever Ironman for Tom and second ever Ironman for Cam and Sylvie, with their first one being 7 weeks prior at IMC. So congratulations to everyone for a great race! We will post some pictures in a few days.
