2005 OAT Awards

The 2005 Ontario Association of Triathletes Annual Awards were presented over the weekend. NRG PT athlete Sylvie Dansereau completed a fantastic season by receiving the ‘Age Group Long Course Athlete of the Year’ award. Head Coach Nigel Gray was presented with the ‘Long Course Athlete of the Year’ as well as ‘Coach of the Year’ awards.

Sylvie had a break through year this past season and raced well across all distances. She started off by winning her age group in Victoria’s Duathlon in May, then again in the Muskoka Long Course Tri in June, and again in the Peterborough Half Ironman in July. She followed up with a phenomenal performance in Ironman Canada, winning her age group, going 9:59 and finishing with the 4th fastest women’s time of the day! She then bounced back seven weeks later to place 4th in her age group at the Ironman World Championships in Hawaii!

Nigel’s outstanding season began with a win at Victoria’s Duathlon, a 7th at the Muskoka Long Course Tri and another win at the Peterborough Half Ironman clocking 4:07. Just three weeks after the birth of his first child, Nigel had a break through at Ironman Canada finishing 3rd overall posting a sub 9hr race of 8:42. Seven weeks later Nigel went on to race the best of the best at the Ironman World Championships in Hawaii and had another solid race going 8:56. Congratulations to Sylvie and Nigel!

Nigel & I would like to thank all of our NRG PT athletes for their continued commitment to our systems and training programs and to the presence you have made at many races locally and globally. We are very proud of the accomplishments, big and small, of all of our athletes.
